The Devil's Rejects Star Reveals How He Brought Otis Back From the Dead for 3 From Hell

Punctuated by bizarro cutaways and surreal sequences, House of 1,000 Corpses very nearly never saw the light of day, thanks largely to a procession of studio executives who believed they were punk rock enough to ride, only to clutch for their pearls at the last second. It finally hit theaters in 2003, though, much to the distaste of critics—and the delight of a small slice of the moviegoing public. When audiences learned that the new film would be titled "3 From Hell," speculation ignited about what the film's plot would be, with some fans even thinking we could follow these characters into Hell itself. "I go to a lot of fan conventions and certainly Otis has stayed alive, at least in the eyes and minds of the fans," Moseley shared with ComicBook.com about reprising the role. "I don't really watch Devil's Rejects or House of 1000 Corpses all that often, so, in other words, I'm not home alone at night, burning the midnight oil, keeping those fires burning for Otis or Chop Top (from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), for that matter." House of 1000 Corpses contains more intriguing characters than it's actually able to explore.

"Certainly working with Rob and Sheri was fun and felt pretty familiar. I do a lot of those conventions with Sid Haig. The two of us have, I don't think we've gone for more than four weeks at a time without seeing one another. So that relationship is very current." After satisfying himself by dehumanizing Gloria, he decided to take her husband Roy Sullivan and bandmate Adam Banjo outside towards a patch of earth to unearth some weapons that he had previously buried. At this point, Adam Banjo tried to fight back and struck Otis across the back with a heavy tree branch. Otis responded by kicking him, then fired his gun, shooting Adam through the neck.

Moments later, Baby's half-brother, Rufus, picks up the stranded passengers and takes them to the family home. The Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery lacks the glitz and glamour of Disneyland cemeteries like Hollywood Forever. It flanks West Adams and Pico-Union, filling the area between Washington and Venice Boulevards along Normandie Avenue. The grass is fairly brown here, and despite the towering palms, it gives the impression of complete lifelessness.

On October 30, 1977, amateur criminals Killer Karl and Richard Wick attempt an armed robbery at a gas station/horror museum, but are killed by the owner, Captain Spaulding, and his assistant, Ravelli. Later that night, Jerry Goldsmith, Bill Hudley, Mary Knowles, and Denise Willis are on the road in hopes of writing a book on offbeat roadside attractions. When the four meet Spaulding, who is also the owner of "The Museum of Monsters & Madmen", they learn of the local legend of Dr. Satan. As they take off in search of the tree from which Dr. Satan was hanged, they pick up a young free-spirited hitchhiker named Baby, who claims to live only a few miles away. Shortly after, a mysterious figure appears hidden in some overgrowth and shoots out their vehicle's tire with a shotgun. The group thinks it is just a blown out tire and so Baby takes Bill to her family's house to get a tow truck.

Halloween Horror Nights have brought the Firefly home to the real world

In a 2014 interview, Zombie said, "The first film [I directed], which people seem to love, is just a calamitous mess. Well, when it came out it seemed like everyone hated it. Now everyone acts like it's beloved in some way. All I see is flaw, upon flaw, upon flaw." Robert Bartleh Cummings, more commonly known as Rob Zombie, came to public prominence in the early '90s as the frontman of the heavy metal band White Zombie. He went on to become a successful solo act, releasing albums under the name of, of course, Rob Zombie. Now that Zombie has had his hands on countless titles, making him a mainstay in the horror movie genre, fans might be surprised to learn that House of 1000 Corpses was his directorial debut. Since this debut, Zombie has gone on to make two Halloween movies, The Lords of Salem, 31, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, The Devil's Rejects, 3 from Hell, and other projects. When Denise doesn't come home, her father Don calls the police to report her missing.

During the dinner, he brought Mama Firefly’s jar-stored stillborn child, “Little Wolf,” to make her happy. A few years after Otis joined the family, Otis and Baby roamed the roads, killing anyone in their path. He travelled over the country stealing and selling cars to survive, but eventually returned to Ruggsville to reunite with the Firefly family again. Westwood Village Memorial Park is a small and intimate cemetery located a short drive away from the University of California, Los Angeles.

He waited to hear Roy praying to God, then mocked his faith by pretending that he had suddenly been struck by the Holy Spirit. Leaning over the bleeding man, he pulled the hair out of his face and said, "I am the devil. And I am here to do the devil's work" before dealing Roy the fatal blow. He turned back towards Adam who was lying in the dirt clutching his bleeding throat wound. He confessed that he was going to go easy on him before he decided to be a hero. Instead though, Otis skinned him alive and made a mask out of the skin from Adam's face.

This is probably exacerbated by the fact that he took a different artistic approach to the following Firefly movies. No matter how Zombie feels, however, House of 1000 Corpses continues to make Halloween must-watch lists every year. An artist is entitled to be hard on his early work, but all the fans see is bloody goodness. Making this happen would be difficult, however, which made him reluctant. He had only recently learned that the Fireflys were responsible for murdering his brother, George Wydell, and now he wanted revenge.

Otis shot the band's roadie, Jimmy, in the head, thus showing the others that he meant business. With the room secure, Otis and Baby took some time to indulge their baser passions. Otis grabbed Gloria Sullivan, held a gun to her head and forced her to strip down to her underwear. In May of 1978, Otis was at home sleeping with the rotting corpse of a young woman when officers from the Ruggsville County Sheriff's Department laid siege to the family farm.

But whether they formed a huge part of the movie's machinery or acted as a single cog, each of these actors was part of something special. Their legacies will forever live on in House of 1000 Corpses, and in the hearts of horror fans everywhere. The other two films in the Firefly trilogy aren't even the only sequels Zombie has gone on to make.

He is one of the more visible and outspoken members of the murderous Firefly clan and is personally responsible for the deaths of at least three individuals. A fetishist to the extreme, Otis is characterized by his strong southern accent, long blond hair and a penchant for spouting his personal philosophical credo. The studio completed a theatrical trailer for the film, which was shown in theaters and prior to the Universal ride created by Zombie.[18] Zombie later received a call for a meeting with Stacey Snider, head of Universal. Zombie claimed that many urged him to scrap the film following the fallout with Universal, though he continued to search for a new distributor. House of 1000 Corpses is a 2003 American black comedy horror film[4][5] written, co-scored, and directed by Rob Zombie in his directorial debut, and the first film in the Firefly film series.

Otis spent the next two nights drinking heavily and spending time with a hooker named Candy. On the second night, Sheriff John Quincy Wydell along with two bounty hunters named Rondo and Billy Ray Snapper raided the brothel and captured Otis, Baby and Spaulding. Billy Ray Snapper pitched a drunken Otis through the window before he was hauled into Wydell's police van. The following day, Halloween, two police officers and Denise Willis' father, Donald Willis, came to the Firefly home looking for the missing youths.

Built in the 1920s, Castillo del Lago (6342 Mulholland Hwy, Los Angeles 90068) was the 1930s home of gangster Bugsy Siegel, who used it as a secret casino (and possible secret execution spot) - the mansion was later owned by Madonna in the 1990s. Now owned by fashion designer Leon Max, Madonna's cream-and-red striped color scheme is gone, but the “deep sense of foreboding” noticed by many visitors remains. Fashion photographers that have shot there report that all their photos turned out black - it’s for you to discover if it has the same effect on Instagram. The Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier offers expansive views, several beautiful chapels, and its own pseudo-"Hollywood" sign, as any self-respecting cemetery should.

It is the resting place of the most famous names in Hollywood, including Dean Martin, Bettie Page, and Farah Fawcett. Walking around the cemetery, you also come across Hollywood’s tragedy-stricken starlets, Marilyn Monroe and Natalie Wood, who were immortalized post-mortem due to their deaths, lives, and careers. Westwood Village Memorial is definitely the place to find the dark side of Hollywood and fame. One other distinction about the cemetery is that, while it used to be common practice for cemeteries to ban black individuals, Evergreen was the only one to allow African-American burials. As such, a number of black actors from the 1920s and ’30s are buried in the North Hill section of the cemetery. The Museum of Death, a showcase of just that, was originally founded in San Diego in 1995.

“We just assumed she would get out of the way,” Zombie remarks on the film’s DVD commentary. Mixed in with this motley collection of Zombie’s favorite actors were his friends. He gave the role of squeaky psycho Baby Firefly to his then-girlfriend (now wife), Sheri Moon. Chris Hardwick, a buddy he’d met at the MTV Music Awards, was asked to play Jerry, one of the four kids, with Zombie telling him he’d written the part of a “loud, obnoxious asshole” specifically for him. Moseley himself was one of them, having already collected a number of horror credits, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, the Night of the Living Dead remake, and Army of Darkness.

Don, a former policeman, is called to the scene to help the deputies search. They arrive at the Firefly house and Wydell questions Mother Firefly about the missing teens. Mother Firefly shoots Wydell in the head and kills him; Don and Steve are then killed by Otis when they find more bodies of missing cheerleaders in the barn, along with a barely conscious Mary.
